3 Things You Should Do Before Trying To Sell Your Car

If you’re planning to sell a car then more than anything you probably want that sale to go as smoothly as it can possibly go. There are many things you can do to make that happen but in this article we’ve prepared our list of the best things you can do to get your car ready for a sale on the Stoney Creek market.

Maintenance

Before you sell a car the obvious impulse is to fix it up as best you can which is not a bad impulse but it is one you should do a little bit of thinking on before you commit to it. Before you commit to fixing something you need to figure out if fixing it is actually worth the money you’d be spending on it.

If the cost of fixing something is more than the amount it will add to your potential asking price is it really worth doing? It might be, and for small and quick things to fix it probably is, in which case you should definitely fix them.

In any case even if you don’t fix everything you should have a list prepared of everything that’s wrong with the car so that you can inform any potential buyers and let them make an informed decision.

Deep Clean

One thing you definitely want to do before selling a car with no need to think about it hard is giving it a thorough cleaning inside and out. While it technically doesn’t have anything mechanical to do with a car, a dirty and smelly car leaves a very bad impression and is likely to put off most buyers.

Even if your car isn’t super gross it’s still  worth giving it a clean, a scrub and polish on the outside and a vacuuming and scrub on the inside. As well as picking up and taking out any of your own things from the car like phone chargers or spare water bottles. Get into every nook and cranny making sure the car is as close to new as you can make it feel.

Paper Work

There’s lots of paperwork that goes into a car sale and getting it all prepared early is a great idea. You obviously need the things that are legally required to make a sale like the car’s pink slip and a bill of sale. But there’s some other paperwork you can prepare as well that might make the process go faster.

A maintenance record for example may be requested by the buyer, or potentially a copy of the vehicle history report. Providing these yourself shows you’ve got nothing to hide and can make the sales process faster and smoother.
