When you need a new car, it’s very tempting to buy a new car. But is that really what you need? We don’t think so and in fact we can think of many great reasons that a used car may actually be the better choice for you. Which is why in this article we’re going to try and convince you that this time, a used car is what you need.
Price & Value
Starting with the biggest and most obvious point: Used cars are cheaper than new ones, significantly cheaper. 2 cars of the same make and model could have significantly different prices simply because one is new and one is used.
This is because financially cars lose a lot of their value once they’ve been used, it’s said that a car loses 30% of its value as soon as you drive it off the lot. This might sound like a ding against used cars but it’s actually the opposite, that rate of depreciation slows down after the initial period, so when you buy a used car, it’s going to lose less value than when you buy a new one.
More Choice
If you have the budget for a new car but decide to go for a new one then things start to get more fun, for the price you were going to pay for an average car you could get a much nicer and fancier car instead, having more money means having more options, and when the cars are cheaper that gives you more options as well.
You won;t be able to custom tailor the car like you might in a new vehicle, however there will be a much wider variety of cars to choose from.
Less Worry
One of the often ignored benefits of driving a used car is that it’s less weight on your shoulders, you can be much less worried about getting any dings or scratches on the car because they won’t tank the value like they might in a new car, and they’ll be much cheaper to fix.
If you’re worried about buying a dud then buying from a certified pre owned program can solve that for you. This is when a dealership has certified that even though the car is used it’s passed their inspection and meets their high standards. Basically it’s as good as new.
Used also means getting cheaper insurance and warranties which means even after buying for cheaper there’s less financial worry on that end as well.
