Sometimes you just really need to move a car quickly, for whatever reason you don;t want it anymore and it’s just taking up space in your driveway. However just because you need to move it quickly doesn’t mean you want to be ripped off. In this article we’ll walk through to sell your car quickly while making sure you’re still getting a good deal.
Figure Out Your Cars Value
Before you try and sell a car, you want to make sure you know how much it’s worth. There’s a couple ways you can go about this. The easiest though is to search for your car or similar models of the same age and see what other people are asking for. This will give you a rough idea of the range you can expect to sell your car in.
When selling a car privately there’s no set value to work with, you just need to make a judgement call. When setting the price you want to aim higher than the lower end of the range but lower than the higher end, there’s a sweet spot somewhere in the middle where you can make a good deal and sell it quicker. As a general rule the less you ask for the faster you’ll sell, but there’s a cutoff where if a price is too low it becomes suspicious to potential buyers and they may assume something is wrong with the car.
Make A really Good Ad
They say a picture tells a thousand words, and that sounds very efficient. The first thing someone will look for on an online listing is the price, but the second is the car itself, so you want that car to be looking its best.
Give the car a thorough cleaning inside and out, then drive out somewhere nice where you can get some really good snaps. Do not underestimate the power of good lighting, snap with the sun behind you.
Take as many pictures as the online listing will allow, take snaps of all the details, and any unique features that make the car unique, interior and exterior shots, one with all the doors open, a picture of the engine and a picture showing the space in the trunk, the less questions people are asking about the car, the faster you can ship it.
Only Negotiate With Serious Buyers
Knowing when a potential buyer is serious and when they’re just wasting your time is a skill, one that you can only really improve with practice, but there are some obvious tells that can help you weed out the people who are just wasting time. See where the potential buyer lives if they live several hours away, potentially in a different province then they’re probably not very serious about buying your car, better to move on to someone else.
Likewise if they’re starting off by making an offer much lower than you’re asking for they’re probably looking for an elongated negotiation, better to find someone less stubborn.
