Is Owning A Supercar Really as Great as it Sounds?

We all have our dream cars, and for most of us that dream car looks a lot like a Ferrari, or a Lamborghini or a Corvette. A supercar is the ultimate symbol of luxury and style. But is it all it’s cracked up to be? Perhaps there’s some reality checks to do on those dreams so here are our reasons that you may want to consider dreaming of a different kind of car.

Supercars Are Expensive

It never hurts to state the obvious, generally speaking for any regular person buying a supercar is a choice between the car and a house, understandably most people choose the house. While the base cost alone is a massive spike from all other types of cars. You can expect all of the secondary costs to double or even triple as well.

Need insurance on that car? It’s going to cost you a literal arm and a leg, and good luck should you ever need to repair the thing, as the parts are extremely rare and extremely costly.

Supercars Are Impractical

Supercars are in a weird place for automotive engineering as generally they aren’t really designed to be “good” cars in a practical sense. Most super cars are built almost entirely for speed and for power which makes them great on a race track but hugely impractical for day to day use.

They have almost no ground clearance which can severely limit where you can actually drive, especially if you have to contend with any severe potholes or speed bumps. They also have an extortionate amount of power so every drive is a constant struggle with the car not to shoot to 50km above the speed limit.

Supercars Are Uncomfortable

Along with that design for speed is a sacrifice in personal comfort as well. Forget any nice luxuries with the seats, that would be far too heavy you see. Super cars offer very little in the way of personal space, and it’s entirely possible to be too big to even fit in the car if you’re even slightly above average in height or weight.

They also offer little to no storage space for anything except the engine, you may have a tiny compartment somewhere to store the car manual in but that’s about it.

Supercars Are A Statement

When you buy a supercar you’re not just buying a new car, you’re making a statement. Supercars draw the attention of everyone in the vicinity, they’re loud and flashy and rare and you’ll be the center of attention wherever you go. To some people that might not sound like a negative but that kind of attention means you can say goodbye to privacy, at least if you ever want to drive the thing, which quite frankly it seems like you’d be better not to anyway.
